How do you build a bottoms-up revenue forecast?

Identify the real unit driver (units sold × price, occupied square feet × rent, active users × ARPU) and forecast that driver directly based on its own realistic growth pattern, rather than forecasting the revenue dollar figure itself. This is what lets a model respond sensibly when you flex volume versus price independently.

What's the difference between a top-down and bottoms-up model?

Top-down starts from a market-size or prior-year total and applies a growth rate; bottoms-up builds up from unit economics and operational drivers. Bottoms-up takes longer to build but is far more defensible in diligence and far more useful for stress-testing specific assumptions.

How do you model working capital changes?

Forecast receivables, payables, and inventory off their own drivers — days sales outstanding, days payable outstanding, days inventory — applied to revenue or COGS, rather than assuming a flat percentage of revenue. The change period-over-period in net working capital is what actually hits the cash flow statement.
